Hurley/Osborn Method Certification

Senior Practitioner and Instructor:

Mary Freebairn

Years ago, my own health journey, and the encouragement of a good friend, led me to a remarkably simple yet powerful structural treatment. At this time, I was experiencing chronic headaches that had persisted for years, and as a physiotherapist I approached the experience with a healthy degree of clinical skepticism.

To my surprise, the results were profound.

That experience relieved my headaches and opened the door to a deeper understanding of how the body holds and releases structural tension.

For  37 years, I have practiced this treatment.

When applied correctly, this method has a remarkable ability to help the body release long- held patterns of tension, support spinal alignment, and address conditions such as scoliosis. Its simplicity is part of its power - but that simplicity also requires careful observation, precise contact, hands-on instruction in order to learn it properly.

My focus has always been less on theory, and more on clinical results. Over the years, I have had the privilege of seeing how this work can help the body reorganize itself when the correct points and vectors are applied.

Today my goal is to pass this work on with clarity and integrity with which it was taught to me.

I look forward to sharing this method with practitioners who are ready to learn and practice diligently, and discover the power of understanding the body's structural balance.

Hurley/Osborn Method Certification

A Structural Correction System for Practitioners

The Hurley / Osborn Method is a structural correction system developed through decades of clinical observation and practice.

This work is not simply a massage technique or bodywork modality. It is a method of structural assessment and corrective contact designed to restore balance to the body through precise observation and minimal intervention.

Who This Program Is For

This program is intended for practitioners who:

• Work professionally with the human body
• Are interested in structural alignment as well as symptomatic relief
• Are willing to integrate a new clinical model into their practice
• Are prepared to practice and document their work following training

Many applicants come from backgrounds such as:

Massage Therapy
Chiropractic
Physiotherapy
Osteopathy
Bodywork or structural therapy

This Is Not a Typical Workshop

Many professional workshops focus on learning a set of techniques over a short period of time.

The Hurley / Osborn Certification Program is different.

Participants must continue practicing the method after the training in order to demonstrate competency before certification is granted.

Certification is granted upon completion of the following:

  1. Attendance at the 3-Day Training Intensive

  2. Completion of 20 documented treatments within 12 weeks

  3. Participation in:
    • One online group discussion session
    • One online individual discussion session

These review sessions are an important part of the learning process and help clarify the application of the method.

What Makes This Method Different

Rather than focusing on relieving symptoms through massage or manipulation, this method focuses on identifying and correcting structural imbalance within the body.

The assessment process uses simple but precise tools—such as a plumb line and careful testing of potential contact points—to determine which contact point brings the spine back into alignment.

Once the correct point is identified, a very light touch is applied. This does not force the body into position. Instead, it provides a reminder that allows the body to recognize and return toward its own structural balance.

Because of this approach, the work often produces results that appear surprisingly powerful for such a gentle technique.

Practitioners frequently observe improvements in areas such as:

• Pain relief
• Chronic muscular tension
• Spinal imbalance
• Postural distortion
• Conditions such as scoliosis

The method is simple in appearance, but it requires careful observation, precise application, and clinical experience to be effective.
